Ep 41: Anthony Shefferly | A police officer's view of how we move forward
In Part 2 of a look at the modern state of policing the United States, I welcome Anthony Shefferly, an active duty police officer.
I cannot imagine what the last year has been like for the men and women in law enforcement. As you’ll hear from Anthony, it’s been stressful, anxiety ridden, and at times, angering.
Conversations like this one with Anthony must happen more often. We must ask questions. We must listen and see the person in front of us for who and what they are individually and not as a caricature of a system we despise or as an unquestioned hero.
Like my conversation last week with Nick Laparra, a staunch abolish the police advocate, there is so much nuance that surfaces when questions replace accusations and when lived experiences replace opinions.
